The Unchained Truth

(Truth Is...)

I am overwhelmed with all of the negative comments and colloquialisms  individuals are using to describe the film Django Unchained. It is a movie that was meant to entertain and shed a different light on a period time that is not regarded as a happy memory for this country. Please stop criticizing the filmmaker, actors and those involved in the distribution of this film. If you wanted to see slavery, you should have read a book or watched Roots. Now Jaime Foxx did jump the gun when he said Django was a modern day Roots. His interpretation of both creative works maybe different from yours and mine. That is perfectly fine.We need to accept others' perspectives. I respect each of your opinions of Django Unchained, I just want you to see that through criticizing and boycotting you're not stopping it from entertaining and making money.

In a world where racism is still highly prevalent, this was the most appropriate time for a film of its liking. Don't go and revolt just because you've seen the film or read these words. It's just time we take things as they are...we can't look at everything in the world as racist or disrespectful to our ancestors. If we did, we'd never do anything fun or achieve beyond our means.

And if you have yet to see the movie, do not let these pessimistic characters steer you from seeing it for yourself. It's a good movie. As some have led you to believe, it does not take away from the historical aspects of slavery, it's all there just underlined with comedy and action. For the movie and history buffs...let me see you make a film that everybody runs to the theaters to see.

This year let's try to stop criticizing so much and give things and people a chance...remember nothing is perfect.

  1. Exactly...how many times have we seen movies about slavery, read books about slavery. Honestly I cringe when I see it accurately portrayed now. We know what occurred and will never forget but to see it in this perspective was just like you said was quite appropriate for this time. Things needed to be changed and this movie did that. People are always too quick to attack, too quick to discredit someone, to not take the chance to see something in a different light. The movie was entertaining and I didn't see it disrespectful at all.
